The first women volunteer soldiers have completed five months of service in the Hellenic Army, ushering in a new historic era for the Greek Armed Forces.

The presence of the first Greek women in voluntary military service is now an everyday reality. Young women aged 20 to 26, having completed their basic training in Lamia and taken the required oath, have fully settled into the rhythm of military life.

“Since I was young, I was interested in the armed forces and always felt a special admiration for their work and mission. It was certainly a demanding period, there was pressure and fatigue, but I tried not to focus on the weakness of the moment. That helped me gain more self-confidence,” one volunteer told the “Mega Non Stop” show.

During their 12-month service, the volunteers take on exactly the same duties as their male colleagues. Their daily schedule includes early wake-up calls, uniforms, combat boots and full participation in operational training.

Talking about daily life in the unit, she said: “There is a schedule, and it requires consistency and responsibility. It was hard at first because I had to adjust, but I found my rhythm.”

Speaking about the swearing-in ceremony, she added with emotion: “It was a special and very moving moment for me. I was especially happy to have my family by my side supporting me.”

Sending her own message to women considering the same path, she concluded: “If they really want it, they shouldn’t be afraid. There will certainly be difficulties, but you learn to deal with them through discipline and respect.”
