Following the November 3 US midterm elections, 46 Greek Americans now hold elected office at the federal and state levels, according to the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association (PADEE-WHIA). The total includes newly elected officials, reelected incumbents, returning lawmakers and officials whose terms continue.
Two more Greek American candidates are still waiting for final results, one facing a possible recount and the other a runoff.
The officials come from both the Democratic and Republican parties, reflecting the bipartisan political engagement of the Greek American community. All are members of PADEE-WHIA, an international network founded in 1996 that brings together current and former elected officials of Hellenic descent in non-Greek-speaking countries, with the aim of promoting parliamentary cooperation, Hellenic heritage and closer ties with Greece.
Pappas Heads to the Senate
The standout result was the election of Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas of New Hampshire to the US Senate. He becomes the fourth Greek American senator in US history, after Paul Sarbanes, Paul Tsongas and Olympia Snowe.
Six Greek American members of the House of Representatives also won reelection:
- Gus Bilirakis (R-Florida)
- Mike Haridopolos (R-Florida)
- Jimmy Patronis (R-Florida)
- Dina Titus (D-Nevada)
- Maggie Goodlander (D-New Hampshire)
- Nicole Malliotakis (R-New York)
With Pappas, they will form a seven-member Greek American delegation in the new Congress.

Republican George Margetas won his first full term in the Pennsylvania House after first winning a special election in May 2026.
Three former lawmakers made a comeback: Republican Lynn Afendoulis returned to the Michigan House, while Democrats Benjamin Baroody and Thomas Katsiantonis returned to the New Hampshire House.

- John Lemondes (R-New York), an incumbent state assembly member, is waiting for the vote count to finish, with a recount possible.
- Mike Cheokas (R-Georgia), an incumbent state representative, faces a runoff on December 1, 2026.
Not on the Ballot, Retiring and Defeated
Democratic State Senator Stella Pekarsky of Virginia was not up for election this year and continues her four-year term, which ends in November 2027. Democrat John Allen, a former New Jersey assembly member who did not run in 2025, plans to seek a return in 2027.
The association also recognized retiring State Senators Stephan Pappas (R-Wyoming), Sandra Pappas (D-Minnesota) and Michael Gianaris (D-New York).
Four incumbents lost their reelection bids: Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony (R), Ohio State Representative Steve Demetriou (R), New Hampshire State Senator Denise Ricciardi (R) and Florida State Represenative Meg Weinberger (R).
