Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine in observance of the Orthodox Easter holiday. The ceasefire is set to begin on Saturday evening and will last until midnight on Easter Sunday.

Putin also accused Ukraine of violating the moratorium on attacks against energy infrastructure over 100 times. He instructed Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov to remain prepared to respond to any Ukrainian offensive actions during the ceasefire period.

Despite the announcement, at least six people were reported injured on Saturday due to ongoing Russian attacks across Ukraine, according to local authorities and The Kyiv Independent. Citing Ukraine’s Air Force, the report stated that Russia deployed eight missiles of various types and 87 long-range drones. Of those, 33 drones were shot down and 36 were identified as decoys.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed it has recaptured the second-to-last settlement previously under Ukrainian control in the Kursk region. This marks a near-complete retaking of the area, which was targeted during a Ukrainian offensive in the summer of 2024.
