Greece is waking up to a moody and unsettled Sunday (April 27), as showers and scattered thunderstorms sweep across most parts of the country. While rain varies from light to moderate intensity, the Ionian Islands seem to escape the worst, with only a slim chance of precipitation.

The day is shaping up as a classic spring mix: cloudy skies, bursts of rain, and even local hailstorms in some areas, particularly in Thessaly, the Sporades, Euboea, eastern Sterea, eastern Macedonia, and Thrace. Rainfall is expected to be stronger at times until late afternoon, before gradually easing by nightfall.

In Attica, residents can expect overcast skies accompanied by occasional light showers, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 23°C. Thessaloniki faces a slightly rougher day with local rain and brief thunderstorms, and temperatures between 12°C and 20°C.

Across the country, thermometers will hover between 20-22°C in the north, 20-24°C in eastern mainland areas, and 24-26°C in the west.

Visibility will be reduced at times, especially in western regions during the morning hours, and the winds will steadily pick up strength. Blowing predominantly from the north, they are expected to reach 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea and locally even 8 Beaufort in the northern parts by evening.

Regional Highlights

Macedonia and Thrace: Passing clouds with rain and thunderstorms, some possibly strong by midday, gradually clearing at night.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, and Western Peloponnese: Mostly cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly inland during the afternoon.

Eastern Mainland, Euboea, Eastern Peloponnese: Cloudier spells with scattered rain and possible thunderstorms, particularly strong early on.

Cyclades and Crete: Showers expected, especially over Crete later in the day.

Aegean Islands and Dodecanese: Intermittent clouds and local showers, clearing in the evening.

Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially in areas prone to sudden weather changes, as short bursts of hail and gusty winds are possible.

Looking Ahead to Monday

The start of the week will bring some improvement. A few showers may linger over central Macedonia, Thessaly, Euboea, the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese, but generally, skies will clear across most of the country by the afternoon.

However, temperatures will take a slight dip, particularly in central and northern areas, with highs reaching only 18–19°C. Winds will remain strong from the north, especially over the Aegean Sea, where they could hit 8 Beaufort.
