The Greek Embassy in Austria hosted a special reception on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in honor of Akylas, Greece’s representative at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest, and the Greek delegation accompanying him, just days before their appearance on stage at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna.
Greek Ambassador to Austria Georgios Iliopoulos and his wife Anthousa Diakopoulou warmly welcomed the delegation at an evening dedicated to Greece’s participation in this year’s contest, celebrating the creative effort and artistic presence the country brings to the European stage.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Iliopoulos described Eurovision as “a great European celebration and a meeting point of people, languages, sounds, and cultures.” He characterized Akylas’s entry as “contemporary and dynamic, with an electronic pulse, but also with a personal voice and a clear artistic identity,” expressing his congratulations to everyone involved in the preparation.
Akylas was visibly moved by the warm reception at the Embassy, saying: “I feel blessed to be representing Greece and I will give 100% of myself. It is my joy to be working with this wonderful team.”
A morning of community visits
Earlier that same day, Akylas visited the Metropolis of Austria and the Greek National School of Vienna, where he met with His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, also Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe, who wished the Greek delegation every success in the upcoming contest.
Akylas also had the opportunity to spend time with the young students of the Greek school, singing with them and gifting each of them his signature “Ferto” cap, in a warm and spontaneous moment ahead of his big appearance on the Eurovision stage.
