One of the greatest achievements of silent cinema will return to the big screen this summer as The General, Buster Keaton’s landmark comedy masterpiece, is presented with live musical accompaniment at the Megaron Athens Garden on June 19th 2026.

The special screening marks 100 years since the release of the iconic film and will feature an original live soundtrack performed by pianist and composer Stathis Anninos. Combining piano and live electronics, Anninos will create a dynamic musical interpretation of the silent classic, offering audiences a fresh way to experience one of cinema’s most influential works.

The event will take place on Friday, June 19 at 9 p.m. as part of the Megaron Garden’s ongoing celebration of silent film. Now in its seventh consecutive year, the programme has become a summer tradition, bringing landmark works of early cinema to contemporary audiences in an open-air setting.

Directed by and starring Buster Keaton, The General follows a daring locomotive engineer during the American Civil War as he pursues Union spies who have stolen his train and kidnapped his beloved. What unfolds is a whirlwind chase packed with relentless action, daring stunts, romance and Keaton’s signature physical comedy.
