The island of Naxos is leveraging technology to promote its cultural and historical heritage by introducing a virtual tour of the Temple of Apollo.
The municipality of the beautiful South Aegean Island has installed two QR-coded information panels at the site’s entrance, allowing visitors to use the NAXOS AR app to view a 3D reconstruction of the ancient temple as it once stood.
Aimed at transforming a simple visit into an immersive journey through history and boosting tourism revenue, the project is a joint collaboration between the island’s council and Small Cyclades in collaboration with MOPTIL and the Cyclades Ephorate of Antiquities.
Situated immediately north of Naxos town and visible from the port, the Temple of Apollo stands on the islet of Palatia, now connected to the mainland with a causeway.
It is a significant archaeological site and a popular tourist destination.
