With its powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters, the Cycladic island of Naxos, in the Aegean, has earned a place among Europe’s most popular travel destinations, according to a recent reader poll by The Guardian.

The British newspaper’s readers singled out a variety of seaside spots across Europe for their natural beauty and charm. In addition to Greece, beaches in Corsica, Western France, Croatia, Sweden, Gran Canaria, Calabria, Bodrum, and Catalonia also made the list.

Unmatched Beauty in Kastraki

In The Guardian’s feature, readers expressed admiration for the island’s coastlines, noting that “Naxos is full of stunning beaches, but Kastraki stands out for its unique, unmatched beauty.” The idyllic shoreline enchants visitors with its soft white sand that gently meets the sea, which shimmers in hues ranging from pale blue to vibrant turquoise.

International Recognition at Greek Travel Awards

Adding to its acclaim, Naxos recently received a major international honor at the Greek Travel Awards, held in London following the conclusion of the WTM tourism exhibition. The island was named Top Sustainable Destination, the result of a structured evaluation and voting process overseen by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
This achievement reflects ongoing efforts by the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, which has spearheaded sustainability initiatives and organized a familiarization trip for tourism professionals and journalists in collaboration with the GNTO’s UK office.
