Greece’s primary state budget surplus rose to 4.5 billion euros in the first half of 2025, according to data released on Wednesday by the Bank of Greece (BoG).

Specifically, during the January – June 2025 period, the primary budget surplus figure of 4.5 billion euros marks a significant improvement over the figure of 77 million euros posted during the corresponding period of 2024.

The central bank said regular budget revenues reached 32.550 billion euros, up from 29.999 billion euros in H1 last year.

In terms of regular budget expenditures, they were 31.605 billion euros, up from 29.117 billion euros in the first six-month period of 2024.

The figures caused the cash deficit at the central government level to drop to 465 million euros, compared to 1.6 billion euros in the corresponding period last year.

The regular budget also posted a surplus of 1.75 billion euros compared to a deficit of 2.2 billion euros in H1 2024.
