Greece’s defense ministry leadership convened an urgent meeting early Wednesday evening to focus on the explosive situation in the Middle East and update a national anti-ballistic missile plan.

Greek DM Nikos Dendias chaired the meeting, which included the armed forces chief of staff and the chiefs of all three military branches, sans the army chief, with the deputy army commander standing in.

Earlier, speaking at a conference in Athens, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that the country would not participate in any operation in the Mideast.

“In the history of the Middle East there has often been much fanciful thinking to the effect that we can solve problems with military action, something that didn’t end well.”

He also expressed a hope that whatever escalation does not generate negative economic repercussions for the internation economy, such as inflation and disruption of energy markets.
