Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis underscored the critical role of interconnections—both electrical and digital—as lifelines of modern economies, at the Mediterranean Connectivity Projects and Investments Conference held in Nice. The summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, took place on June 9, 2025.

Mitsotakis placed special emphasis on two key infrastructure projects: the GREGY Interconnector, a planned electricity link between Egypt and Europe via Greece, and the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), which he described as a vital link in the European energy market chain. These initiatives, he noted, are not only essential for connectivity but carry significant strategic importance for the European Union, particularly because European companies are actively involved in their development.

“The freedom of connectivity—both in energy and data through submarine cables—is non-negotiable,” Mitsotakis declared, reaffirming Greece’s commitment to safeguarding infrastructure critical to the digital and energy future of the continent.

The Prime Minister also reiterated Greece’s support for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a landmark initiative aimed at linking India and the Middle East to Europe. He emphasized Greece’s strategic geographic role as a natural gateway to Europe and expressed the country’s intent to work closely with other stakeholders in the project.

Later, at 1:00 p.m., he will address the Hellenic Parliament in a debate on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s new legislative bill titled “Highway Code and Other Provisions.”
