Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Telekom CEO Timotheus Höttges at the Maximos Mansion in Athens on Wednesday, with discussions focusing on the company’s investment plans in Greece, artificial intelligence and Europe’s digital future.
During the meeting, Höttges briefed the prime minister on the implementation of Telekom’s strategic investment plan in Greece, which amounts to €600 million annually, mainly for the expansion of fiber-optic and 5G networks.

Telekom’s investment plans in Greece
Höttges reaffirmed Telekom’s commitment to the Greek market and the group’s confidence in the prospects of the Greek economy.
Mitsotakis was briefed on the progress of the investment plan and discussed the company’s further contribution to Greece’s digital transformation, with the goal of establishing the country as a European leader in digitalization.
The investment program focuses primarily on expanding fiber-optic and 5G infrastructure.
AI and Europe’s digital sovereignty
Artificial intelligence and European digital sovereignty were also at the center of the discussion, with both described as issues of strategic importance for Greece and Europe.
Particular emphasis was placed on the rapid developments in AI, the infrastructure required to make use of the technology, and the need for Europe to strengthen its technological competitiveness and autonomy.
Mitsotakis highlights investment environment
Mitsotakis, referring to the government’s economic planning, said fiscal stability is an “non-negotiable achievement” for Greece.
He also said political stability is an essential prerequisite for maintaining an attractive investment environment and has contributed to the significant increase in investment in Greece over the past seven years.
The meeting was attended by Greek National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and Prime Minister’s investment adviser Dimitris Politis.
Representing Telekom were Dominique Leroy, the company’s head of Europe; Kostas Nebis, chairman and CEO of the OTE Group; and Eirini Nikolaidou, legal counsel and chief officer for legal and regulatory affairs, public affairs and corporate governance at the OTE Group.
