Vangelis Liolios is being held in the same cell as the 58-year-old doctor from the Karneadou Street apartment where Giorgos Mazonakis lost his life, according to information reported by MEGA.

The former president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) is reportedly the seventh inmate in the cell, which he shares with the doctor and five other inmates.

On Sunday, the investigating judge and the prosecutor decided to remand in custody Vangelis Liolios, who resigned as president of the Basketball Federation.

The once-powerful figure in Greek basketball and his associate were ordered held pending trial after testifying before investigating judge Metos. They face felony charges.

For three and a half hours, Liolios tried to rebut the charges against him of repeated bribery under the sports law. He declared his innocence and spoke of a “war” waged against him to make him lose the Federation’s presidency.

The defendant pointed to a series of financial and tax audits he has undergone, noting that nothing wrong was found against him.
