A 12-year-old boy was found dead in his home in the Attica region of Greece, in a deeply disturbing incident that has sparked national concern. According to early reports, the child was discovered hanged in front of a tablet and a mobile phone, both of which were turned on at the time.

Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that the boy may have taken part in a dangerous online challenge or had been a victim of bullying. These are the two leading scenarios under consideration, based on preliminary information.

Speaking to local media, a senior retired police official, Giorgos Kalliakmanis, confirmed that both the tablet and the phone have been confiscated and are being examined for evidence that may help clarify the events leading to the boy’s death. He noted that, according to available information, the boy had previously spoken to a psychologist about personal issues he was facing.

The boy was reportedly found by his brother.

Dr. Kelly Ioannou, a criminologist, stressed the potential danger of children being exposed to harmful online content. She emphasized that when a child has already shown signs of distress and is exposed to content that can trigger dangerous ideas, the impact can be devastating.

The case has intensified ongoing concerns in Greece about the influence of social media, online challenges, and digital peer pressure on minors. While the investigation is still in its early stages, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for vigilance in monitoring the digital lives of young people.
