A 4-year-old girl was found wandering alone on a busy street in the northern Athens suburb of Marousi, prompting police intervention and the arrest of her parents on charges of neglect.
The child was spotted by a taxi driver, who noticed her walking unaccompanied and appearing unable to identify where she lived.
Driver raises alarm
According to reports, the driver approached the girl and realized she could not provide directions to her home.
The child told him that her parents had argued and that only her grandmother was at home. Concerned for her safety, the driver immediately contacted police.
How the child left home
The girl’s mother later told authorities she was not at home at the time, while the father, who was inside the residence, did not have the keys.
The child reportedly managed to open the door on her own and leave the house unnoticed.
Previous incident raises concerns
Authorities also revealed that this was not the first such incident.
Just four months earlier, the same child had left the home again and was found by a passerby after reportedly exiting through a window. At the time, the mother said she had been caring for the child’s younger sibling, who was ill.
Parents arrested and released
Police arrested both parents on charges of child neglect. They were later released pending further legal proceedings.
The case has raised concerns about child safety and supervision, particularly after repeated incidents involving the same minor.
