The Pan-Attica Federation of Open-Air Market Vendors has decided not to join Wednesday’s, Dec. 3, nationwide strike called by the General Confederation of Producers and Professional Vendors of Industrial Goods, pointing to organizational shortcomings at the national level that hinder a unified platform of demands. As a result, street markets across the broader Athens region will operate normally.

In its announcement, the federation underscores the sector’s strong opposition to what it views as unfair, presumptive taxation based on non-existent income, as well as the introduction of electronic dispatch notes without meaningful consultation.

These issues are described as core priorities for vendors, who are seeking an immediate and substantive dialogue with the Finance Ministry.

The federation notes that structural weaknesses within nationwide representation currently prevent a cohesive expression of shared demands. It stresses, however, that if upcoming talks with the Finance Ministry fail to produce progress, the Pan-Attica Federation, in coordination with the regional federation of professional and producer vendors, is prepared to spearhead necessary industrial action.

The announcement highlights a commitment to evidence-based arguments and a consistent advocacy record.
