The severe weather that struck Rhodes on Wednesday, October 14, has turned deadly, with a man found dead in the Stegna area of Archangelos, according to local authorities. He was discovered unconscious on the shoreline, and his identity has not yet been confirmed.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), the 25-year-old was recovered by Hellenic Coast Guard personnel after the car he was in was swept into the sea at Stegna beach in Archangelos. The same sources say four vehicles in total were carried into the water. The young man, who was inside one of them, was unable to get out of the car in time. Severe weather continues across the island, causing serious problems.
Since the early hours of the morning, the storm has severely disrupted the island’s road network and transportation. Civil Protection teams from the Municipality of Rhodes and the South Aegean Region have been fully mobilized, responding to incidents at multiple locations.
Earlier, residents received a 112 emergency alert urging them to limit travel and follow the instructions of the authorities. Rhodes Mayor Alexandros Koliadis issued a similar appeal shortly afterward.
Torrential rain has turned roads into rivers from Ialysos to the town of Rhodes, as well as in Afantou, Faliraki and Archangelos, leaving dozens of vehicles stranded. In Archangelos, an unoccupied car was swept away by a raging torrent.
The storm is affecting much of the country, putting local authorities on high alert and causing serious problems in several regions. Wednesday is expected to be the worst day of the bad weather, with flooding, intense thunderstorms, localized hail and gale-force winds reported in many areas.

In northern Evia, the situation is described as critical, as heavy rainfall has caused flooding and the Kireas River to overflow its banks. Sections of the road network have been closed to traffic. Earlier, a 112 alert ordered the evacuation of the Makrykapa area in the regional unit of Evia, directing residents to move toward Psachna due to the overflowing river.
