Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières – MSF) has called on the Greek Parliament to assist in finding a diplomatic solution for the urgent medical evacuation of severely injured and seriously ill people from Gaza to European Union countries, including Greece.
During a meeting with the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, MSF representatives outlined the organization’s efforts so far and stressed the need for diplomatic backing to overcome obstacles preventing the safe transfer of thousands of patients.
Humanitarian Plea and Past Initiatives
The head of MSF Greece, Christina Psarra, and humanitarian action advisor Apostolis Fotiadis explained the challenges faced in arranging such evacuations. They also expressed gratitude to Kaklamanis for a recent parliamentary initiative to provide medical care in Greece for 10 Palestinian children once they arrive in the country.
“This gave us the motivation to come here and seek your support,” they noted.
Parliament’s Response
In response, Kaklamanis, a radiologist by training, assured MSF that he will do everything possible to facilitate the organization’s mission. “I will remain at your disposal for any assistance I can provide,” he underlined.
