Dr. Stella Tsani, Associate Professor at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens in Economics & Energy, was awarded the 2025 European Sustainable Energy Award in the “Woman in Energy” category in Brussels today.

The award recognizes her outstanding efforts in bridging the divide between research and action in the fields of energy and the environment, as well as her deep dedication to mentoring the next generation of professionals in the field of energy—focusing especially on young women.

A public online vote thrust the distinguished professor into first place. Dr. Tsani received the accolade during a ceremony at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Awards in Brussels.

The Greek professor combines her academic work on clean energy transition with rigorous engagement in policymaking. She is recognized for advancing progress through evidence-based policy proposals.

The award also highlights ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and opportunities in the energy sector.

The other two finalists were Sophie Loots of Belgium, an advocate for community energy cooperatives in Flanders, and Carmen Sánchez-Guevara of Spain, recognized for her work in addressing energy poverty during summer months.

The EUSEW Awards spotlight excellence and innovation in sustainable energy across Europe, aiming to inspire action and accelerate the continent’s transition to a greener, more equitable energy future.

“These are the future leaders, innovators, and decision-makers who will tackle the challenges and opportunities of the clean energy transition. My goal is to inspire the new generation of women scientists, policymakers, and entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector,” she said in a statement.
