The latest gangland style killing of a Turkish national in Greece came early Tuesday afternoon outside the crowded inter-city bus terminal in the northern city of Thessaloniki, with the victim shot twice in the head and chest.
According to initial reports, a late-model black jeep without license plates first intercepted and blocked the path of another vehicle with three Turkish nationals inside, before a gunman in the first vehicle exited and shot dead one of the two passengers.
Police later recovered seven shells from the scene.
The driver of the vehicle carrying the victim was only slightly injured and provided authorities with eyewitness statements, while later reports have the second passenger sustaining serious injuries.
The assailants fled the scene in the black jeep and are being sought.
The incident is the latest in a series of deadly attacks involving Turkish nationals in Greece over the recent period, with authorities pointing directly to organized crime gangs, in many cases comprised of ethnic Kurds, who have fled the law in Turkey and but continued criminal activities in relative anonymity from Greece.
