A former employee of a technical company in Agrinio has been accused of illegally using a company fuel card after his dismissal, allegedly causing losses of nearly €32,000, according to police authorities.
The Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and Prosecution in Agrinio investigated the case, which led to charges against six Greek nationals for theft and another person for allegedly accepting and handling criminal proceeds.
According to the police investigation, the former employee kept a prepaid fuel card belonging to the company after leaving his job. Between April 10 and May 12, 2026, he allegedly worked together with another suspect, who presented himself as a procurement manager, to carry out 350 unauthorized transactions at fuel stations in Agrinio.
The transactions reportedly involved fuel worth a total of €31,667.
Alleged fuel distribution scheme
Police said the two main suspects transported the fuel using containers and tanks placed in vehicles. They allegedly worked with four additional people, with different participants involved each time.
On May 12, two of the suspects allegedly removed fuel worth €1,288 from a specific fuel station without payment. The fuel was then reportedly delivered to a carpentry business owned by one of the suspects, who was accused of accepting criminal proceeds.
Police seizures and admissions
During searches carried out as part of the investigation, officers reportedly found and seized 160 liters of fuel stored in eight plastic containers inside a suspect’s storage area.
At the carpentry business linked to the suspect accused of accepting stolen goods, police found a large number of empty plastic containers.
Two of the people involved were brought in for questioning and reportedly admitted their actions, according to authorities.
The case file will now be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance in Aetolia-Acarnania.
