A sailing ban has been imposed at several Greek ports as gale-force winds continue to batter the seas, disrupting ferry services nationwide. Departures from the port of Piraeus proceeded as scheduled until 8:00 a.m., but uncertainty remains over subsequent sailings. Travelers are advised to contact travel agencies and port authorities for updates on possible schedule changes.
Services have also been suspended from the port of Volos to the Sporades islands, while routes between Kavala and Thasos remain on hold. In Crete, vessels stayed docked as winds reaching up to 9–10 Beaufort in some areas made operations unsafe, forcing the cancellation of scheduled routes.
According to local reports from the news outlet ekriti, and port authority updates, ships at Heraklion were unable to depart on time last night due to the severe weather. A ferry operated by ANEK Lines was expected to leave at midday for Piraeus, while a vessel run by Minoan Lines will sail once the ban is lifted. Scheduled departures from Piraeus to Crete were likewise cancelled.
A similar situation has unfolded at the port of Souda in Chania, where a general sailing ban has also been enforced. Ships remain moored, with departures tentatively postponed until midday, pending improved weather conditions and further guidance from port authorities.
