In a move aimed at simplifying bureaucratic procedures for families, Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has announced the expansion of digital issuance of Tax Identification Numbers (AFM) and secure access codes (Kleidarithmos) to minors over the age of 12 who do not possess a police-issued identity card.

This development builds on AADE’s ongoing efforts to streamline the process of automatically assigning AFM numbers to minors. It is expected to significantly ease the burden on parents and guardians—particularly in cases where automatic issuance was not possible due to difficulties verifying parental relationships based on available official records.

The new procedure enables the issuance of an AFM, which forms the basis for the new Personal Identification Number, now required for issuing national identity cards. With this number, minors without a police ID will be able to proceed with obtaining their identity documents.

AADE had already initiated the automatic assignment of AFMs to minors over 12 in 2023.

Key Points of the New Procedure:
• It applies to Greek nationals over the age of 12 residing in Greece, who do not yet have a police-issued ID card and have not automatically received an AFM.

• The request must be submitted by the minor’s legal representative or an authorized third party. Instead of an identity card, a birth certificate or a family status certificate must be provided, along with any other necessary supporting documents.

• Applications are submitted digitally via the myAADE portal (myaade.gov.gr), under the section titled “AFM & Kleidarithmos.”
