Greece’s Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) has issued a new recall of a batch of marinated smoked trout sold under the brand name “frésco,” as part of an ongoing epidemiological investigation into a listeriosis case, following notification by the National Public Health Organization (EODY).
According to the official announcement, EFET’s Regional Directorate of Attica carried out an emergency inspection and sampling of the product, specifically “Smoked Karpenisi Trout (fillet)” marketed under the trade name “frésco.” The batch in question carries a production date of April 16, 2026, and a best-before date of August 14, 2026, and was manufactured by the company “G. PANAGIOTOPOULOS I. MPAKATIAS O.E. FISH FARMING.”
Analysis of the sample, conducted at EFET’s Athens Food Testing and Research Laboratories, confirmed the presence of the pathogenic microorganism Listeria monocytogenes. This type of bacterial contamination can cause serious health problems, particularly in vulnerable population groups.
Following the test results, EFET ordered the immediate recall of the entire batch. Inspections have also been launched in cooperation with EFET’s Regional Directorate of Western Greece and the Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Affairs of the Regional Unit of Evrytania.
Consumers who have already purchased the product are urged not to consume it, in the interest of public health protection.
