Sunny weather will continue across most of Greece in the coming days, with only temporary cloud development over mainland areas during the hottest hours of the day. These clouds may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous regions.

Temperatures are expected to gradually increase over the weekend, with highs reaching 35°C to 38°C in many areas and locally climbing to 39°C or even 40°C in isolated locations. Despite the rising temperatures, forecasters said conditions are not expected to reach heatwave levels.

Northern winds will remain present, especially over the Aegean Sea, where they will locally strengthen to 6 or 7 Beaufort.

Friday forecast

On Friday, August 7, the weather will be generally clear across the country, with sunshine prevailing in almost all regions.

However, temporary clouds will develop over mainland areas during the afternoon, bringing scattered local showers or brief rain showers mainly in mountainous areas. Isolated thunderstorms may occur in Central and Eastern Macedonia.

Winds will blow from northern to northwestern directions, reaching 2 to 4 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and 3 to 5 Beaufort in the Aegean, locally strengthening to 6 or 7 Beaufort.

Temperatures will remain relatively stable, with highs reaching 33°C to 36°C in most areas and 37°C to 38°C locally on the mainland. In the Cyclades islands, temperatures will remain lower, not exceeding 30°C to 31°C.

Attica forecast

In the Attica region, which includes Athens, skies will remain clear with sunshine throughout the day.

Temperatures will range from 25°C to 36°C, locally reaching 37°C. Conditions will be slightly cooler in northern and eastern areas, where temperatures will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.

Winds will blow from northern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in eastern parts of the region.

Thessaloniki forecast

Thessaloniki will also experience mostly clear weather, with plenty of sunshine and some temporary afternoon clouds, mainly around surrounding mountainous areas.

Local showers or brief rain showers may occur in those areas.

Temperatures will range from 23°C to 34°C, locally reaching 35°C. Winds will initially be variable before shifting to southerly directions at 2 to 4 Beaufort.

Weekend forecast

Saturday: Noticeable rise in temperatures

Saturday will remain mostly sunny across Greece. Temporary clouds will develop in some mainland areas during the afternoon, with local showers or brief rain possible in western, central and northern regions. Isolated thunderstorms may occur mainly in mountainous areas.

Winds will reach 2 to 4 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea, locally up to 5 Beaufort, while in the Aegean they will blow from northern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort.

Temperatures will rise slightly, with highs reaching 35°C to 37°C in most areas and 38°C to 39°C locally on the mainland. In very isolated areas, temperatures could briefly reach 40°C. The Cyclades will remain cooler, with highs of up to 31°C to 32°C.

Sunday: Heat persists, slight drop in eastern regions

Sunday will remain generally clear, with plenty of sunshine and only a few local clouds.

During the afternoon, temporary cloud development is expected over mainland areas, especially in mountainous regions, bringing isolated showers or brief rain. Some isolated thunderstorms may occur mainly in western and northern areas.

Winds in the Ionian Sea will blow from the northwest at 2 to 4 Beaufort, locally reaching 5 Beaufort. In the Aegean, northerly winds will strengthen to 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally reaching 7 and possibly briefly 8 Beaufort.

Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, with hot conditions continuing across most of the country, although eastern regions are expected to see a slight decrease.
