The Greek National Organization for Medicines (EOF) has issued a public health warning against the consumption of BUFALO ENERGY CHOCOLATE, a product being sold online and potentially available in Greece through e-commerce platforms. The alert comes after notification from German health authorities and laboratory tests revealing that the product contains sildenafil — a potent pharmaceutical substance not permitted in food.

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in medications used to treat erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra. It works by increasing blood flow through the relaxation of blood vessels. While effective under medical supervision, the use of sildenafil without a prescription can be dangerous, especially for individuals with underlying heart conditions, high or low blood pressure, or those taking medications that interact negatively with the substance.

Side effects may include headaches, dizziness, vision disturbances, and in more serious cases, cardiovascular complications.

Because sildenafil is not declared on the label and the product is presented as a food item, its consumption could unknowingly expose users to significant health risks. The drug authority warns consumers to remain alert and urges them not to use the product if they come across it.

The organization also reiterates the broader risk of purchasing unregulated food or drug products through unofficial online channels. Products that fall under EOF’s regulatory authority should only be sourced through trusted, approved vendors to ensure consumer safety.
