Greece’s Minister of Education, Sophia Zacharaki, has sparked discussion about the future of the country’s education system by proposing significant reforms, including the possible abolition of the nationwide university entrance exams, known as the panelladikes.

In recent statements, Zacharaki argued that the current system no longer meets the modern needs of students or the requirements of universities, calling for an overhaul that better aligns with contemporary educational goals.

The minister also addressed recent incidents at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), highlighting the importance of enhanced security measures on university campuses. She stressed that ensuring the safety of students and academic staff is a top priority for the government.
