Authorities were alerted in central Athens early Monday after a hand grenade was thrown outside a café.

According to reports, two people riding a motorcycle approached the cafe on Acharnon Street, threw the grenade and then fled the scene. No injuries have been reported thus far.

Traffic immediately halted

Traffic was immediately suspended on Acharnon Street between Ioulianou and Heyden streets. Restrictions were also imposed on Feron Street, from Fyli Street.

The incident was placed under the control of the Hellenic Police Explosives Disposal Unit. The affected streets will be closed off until the bomb squad finishes inspecting the devices and canvassing the area.

According to reports the café had been targeted again in September. Authorities are investigating if the two incidents are connected.
