Τhe latest and biggest tremor to date after roughly a week of intense seismic activity in the southern Aegean came on Wednesday evening, with an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.
The quake was recorded at 21.09 (19.09 GMT) in the exact sea region where the activity continues at a crescendo: between the islands of Santorini and Amorgos.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre registered the quake at 5.2R
The quake was measured at a focal depth of five kilometers, and pinpointed at 18 kilometers south-southeast of the Arkesini site on Amorgos.
Just a minute earlier, a light quake, 3.7R, was registered closer to Athens, pinpointed at 17 kilometers northeast of the harbor town of Lavrio, east of the Greek capital on the southern Evoikos Gulf. The tremor was felt in parts of eastern Attica prefecture.
