A major operation by the Hellenic Coast Guard is underway to extinguish the fire, which broke out on the deck of the Greek-flagged cargo and vehicle ferry BLUE CARRIER 2.
According to information the fire began from a truck inside one of the ship’s garages.
The vessel has 29 people on board, 28 crew members and one passenger.
According to the latest update, everyone on board is in good health. They were rescued by a Greek Cost Guard vessel and safely transported to Tinos.
A large force of firefighting and support units were dispatched to the scene or is already operating there, including:
- 4 Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats
- 1 patrol vessel
- 2 Fire Department speedboats
- 1 firefighting vessel
- 2 tugboats
- Private vessels and passing ships
Two Hellenic Fire Service helicopters have also been mobilized.
A team from the Underwater Missions Unit (MYA), a specialized Hellenic Police response unit, is heading to the scene following an official order to assist with the operation.
