The serious marine accident involving a collision between boats near Antipaxos has renewed calls for strict adherence to maritime safety rules, according to Georgios Vallis.
Vallis called for a full and immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to establish what caused the collision and determine responsibility where appropriate.
He stressed that protecting human life must be the absolute priority, warning that a mistake or incorrect maneuver at sea can turn into a tragedy within seconds.

“The serious incident involving the collision of boats in Antipaxos is causing great concern and once again highlights the need for absolute adherence to safe navigation rules,” Vallis said.
“At a time when maritime traffic is particularly heavy, there is no room for carelessness, negligence or incorrect maneuvers. Behind every boat are human lives, and protecting them must be an uncompromising priority.”
Vallis specifically called for authorities to investigate the incident without delay.
“I call for a full and immediate investigation into the circumstances under which the accident occurred, so that the causes can be clarified and responsibility assigned where required,” he said.
“The sea requires knowledge, responsibility and absolute respect. A mistake at sea can turn into a tragedy within just a few seconds.”
