Police on Rhodes have identified three British nationals as suspects in the theft of a safe containing more than 100,000 euros from a home in Faliraki, one of the island’s most popular tourist resorts, authorities said.
The Robbery
The break in occurred on June 22, sometime between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., while the homeowner was away, according to police. The suspects entered the residence and removed the entire safe rather than attempting to open it on site. The owner later reported that the safe contained 100,000 euros in cash along with 1,200 British pounds.
Following an investigation, police identified three UK nationals as the individuals allegedly involved in the theft. According to authorities, two of the suspects are believed to have left Greece after the incident, while the third remained on Rhodes and was located and brought in by police.
Officers said the third suspect was found in possession of more than 27,000 euros, an amount investigators believe represents his portion of the stolen money.
What comes next
The arrested man now faces legal proceedings under Greek law and has been referred to the justice system. Police have not released further details on the identities of the two suspects believed to have left the country, and it is unclear whether an international search is underway for them.
