Severe weather with intense phenomena hit the municipality of Farkadona in the Trikala region of central Greece on Wednesday afternoon, causing major problems in residential areas and extensive damage to agricultural land.
In the center of Farkadona, streets were flooded with large volumes of water, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to move around. Images from local media show familiar parts of the town transformed into temporary lakes.
Residents report that the problem recurs every time heavy rainfall occurs, and are calling for immediate interventions in rainwater drainage systems in order to prevent future flooding.
Thousands of acres “submerged” in Keramidi
In the local community of Keramidi, according to reports, thousands of acres of farmland were covered by water. Images from the area show widespread flooding across agricultural fields, with the full extent of the damage expected to be assessed once the waters recede and officials conduct on-site inspections.
Hail and gale-force winds in Zarko
Conditions were particularly severe in Zarko as well, where torrential rain, hail, and strong winds were recorded. Videos and photographs from the area capture the intensity of the storm, showing flooded crops, fallen branches, and damage to yards and roads.
Farmers in the region report significant losses, with some even speaking of total crop destruction in certain areas. However, these accounts have not yet been officially confirmed as damage assessments are still pending.
