Alexis Tsipras said the atmosphere around the prime minister’s office has never felt as dark as it does now, commenting on an interview given by Grigoris Dimitriadis, whom he did not name directly.
Speaking at a ELAS political event in Mytilene titled “Now We’re Talking,” the party leader said people who were once at the core of the prime minister’s office are now giving interviews and, in language he compared to that of mafiosi, claiming they “stepped in to take the bullet meant for the boss.” He asked rhetorically whether the country is in Colombia or in Greece.
He went on to ask how much longer citizens, progressive and conservative alike, would tolerate this state of affairs, saying his party is focused on real problems and real solutions rather than a strategy built on escalation, polarization and toxicity.
Tsipras accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of pursuing what he called an unprecedented mix of amorality, opportunism, toxicity and vulgarity, again using the term “adonism” (a reference to government spokesperson Adonis Georgiadis) to describe it.
He said his party would keep making its case through calm argument, aiming to convince people there is another path for the country, one he said Greeks deserve.
