A tense search on Mount Parnassus ended safely on Thursday evening as two hikers, aged 44 and 46, were successfully rescued after becoming disoriented in heavy fog.
The hikers had been trekking when poor visibility caused them to lose their way. Realizing their situation, they contacted local authorities for assistance, prompting an immediate rescue operation.
The coordinated effort involved 13 firefighters from the 7th and 8th Special Rescue Units (EMAK) based in Lamia and Larissa, along with additional firefighters from Livadia. The mission also included support from two local volunteer rescue teams and personnel from the Parnassus Ski Center.
Both hikers were found in good condition and safely transported off the mountain. Authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness and timely communication for hikers in mountainous and fog-prone areas.
