Wildfire Near Agioi Theodoroi Shuts Down Highway Lane

A wildfire broke out Monday afternoon (June 1) alongside the Athens-Corinth National Highway near Agioi Theodoroi, causing the closure of the right lane of the Athens-bound carriageway.

Five fire service vehicles and 19 firefighters are responding at the scene, along with a ground crew on foot.

Due to the firefighting operation, the right lane of the Athens-Corinth National Highway in the Athens-bound direction has been closed at the 61st kilometer.

Traffic in the area is particularly heavy as holiday travelers are returning from the Holy Spirit long weekend, and significant backups have already formed, as shown on real-time traffic maps. The fire has also caused a suspension of suburban rail service on the same stretch.
