Olympiacos BC on Wednesday unveiled a new sponsorship cooperation agreement with the ARRENA company, with the team’s owners, Giorgos and Panagiotis Angelopoulos also commenting on the club’s proposal to the state to develop and commercially exploit the Peace & Friendship Indoor Stadium (SEF) in coastal southern Athens, near the port city of Piraeus.
The Angelopoulos brothers stated that the club is in the final stretch of negotiations with the government.
Giorgos Angelopoulos on the Peace and Friendship Stadium
Asked about Olympiacos’ home court, the Peace and Friendship Stadium at the Neo Faliro site, Giorgos Angelopoulos said: “Discussions have been going on for more than four years, and progress has been recently made. The current situation is as follows: a full agreement has been reached over the entire site. The studies and cost sharing have been done, and these have been agreed to. There is only one outstanding issue – our vision is to link the Mikrolimano (marina) the with Tae Kwon Do (indoor venue). To create something unified, something fantastic. This is for the citizens of Piraeus. We want someone to start riding their bike and to continue on. It goes without saying that this (project) must have a continuity, it must be unified.
“We have submitted a comprehensive proposal to the government. Anything done in the surrounding area will be done with our own funding. That is clear. If this isn’t completed within the next few weeks, Olympiacos will not be able to enter the new stadium before 2028-29. I’d like to think we’re close, only the pending issue remains…We’re waiting for the final decisions.”
