In an era marked by fast-paced living and growing mental fatigue, a clear trend is emerging among Greek travelers: the pursuit of wellness, nature, and physical activity. According to a recent survey exploring Greek consumer intentions around travel for sports and well-being, more and more people are turning to getaways that offer a chance to recharge both body and mind.
The study, conducted in May 2025 with the participation of 1,000 Greek consumers, reveals that 67.5% of respondents expressed a positive or very positive attitude toward taking a trip centered around physical activity. Meanwhile, 52.5% said they are considering a wellness-focused trip aimed at relaxation, rejuvenation, or improving sleep quality.
Hiking Takes the Lead
Hiking has emerged as the leading activity for fitness-related travel, with 41% of respondents identifying it as the most likely reason for taking such a trip in the coming year. It is followed by cycling (14.2%), skiing (12.6%), and climbing (11.2%). These preferences highlight a broader desire for experiences that blend movement with immersion in nature — a combination that seems to be a growing priority for Greek travelers.
Wellness Travel on the Rise
A similar level of enthusiasm is seen in the wellness travel segment. Top choices are those that offer contact with nature (37.2%) and relief from stress (25.9%). Additionally, 17.6% of respondents showed interest in trips focused on supporting mental health, further underlining the holistic approach Greeks are now seeking when planning their time away.
Cost-Conscious, Yet Committed
Despite this rising interest, cost remains a critical factor. The majority of Greek consumers appear cautious with their spending: 69.4% stated they would spend up to 500 euros on a fitness-related trip, and 63.3% would budget the same amount for a wellness trip. Only a small minority — between 2% and 5% — said they would be willing to spend over 1,000 euros for travel with a health or athletic focus.
