Greek travelers are increasingly setting their sights beyond the traditional European holiday hotspots, turning instead toward destinations in Asia, according to Revolut’s inaugural Global Travel Spending Report. The trend is being driven largely by millennial Greeks aged 25 to 34, who are choosing far-flung destinations rich in culture and often easier on the wallet.

While traditional favorites like the UK, which accounted for 18% of total international spending by Greeks last year, still dominate, interest is shifting. In 2024, international spending by Greek consumers rose by 5%, signaling a growing appetite for travel. But this growth isn’t just going toward Europe and North America—there’s a marked rise in travel to Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

This evolution in travel preferences reflects a desire among Greek travelers for authentic, culturally immersive experiences over conventional tourism. Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam have seen striking annual increases in spending by Greek travelers aged 25 to 34—up by 45%, 45%, and 42%, respectively.

In Africa, Morocco and Egypt are emerging as budget-friendly destinations for those seeking rich experiences, with both countries seeing a 38% rise in spending from Greek visitors.

Millennials are clearly at the forefront, making up 37% of all Greek international travel spending. They’re followed by those aged 35–44 (21%) and 18–24 (16%), reinforcing the trend that younger generations are embracing adventurous, non-traditional travel. Meanwhile, older Greeks—particularly those aged 55 and above—continue to favor familiar destinations, highlighting a generational divide in travel attitudes.
