Clooney, widely recognized for her Lebanese heritage and her extensive work on international law and human rights, is visiting Greece at the invitation of Costantza Sbokou Constantakopoulou, the newly appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Protection and Promotion of Culture.
At 6 p.m., Clooney and Sbokou Konstantakopoulou will take part in a closed-door discussion at the Columns of the Olympian Zeus, focused on “Artificial Intelligence and Culture.” president Tasoulas is also expected to attend.
The day will conclude with a formal dinner at 8:30 p.m. at the Acropolis Museum, with proceeds going toward UNESCO’s Culture Fund to help combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property. Reports indicate that Mareva Mitsotakis, wife of the Greek prime minister, will attend the dinner and deliver remarks.
Today’s meeting between Clooney and Tasoulas is not their first encounter. The two previously crossed paths in 2014, when Tasoulas, then serving as Greece’s culture minister, asked the law firm where Clooney worked at the time to examine the legal grounds for Greece’s claim to the return of the Parthenon Marbles. Clooney traveled to Athens that October as part of the legal team advising the Greek government on its case against the British Museum.
Separately, at 2 p.m., Tasoulas will meet at the Presidential Mansion with UNESCO Director-General and Egyptian archaeologist Khaled El-Enany.
