Athens is set to gain its own landmark event dedicated to street photography. The Athens Street Photography Festival (ASPF), the first international festival in Greece devoted exclusively to the genre, will make its debut from May 14 to 17, 2026, aiming to place the Greek capital firmly on the global map of contemporary urban photography.
Hosted at T.A.F. / the art foundation in the heart of the city’s historic center, the festival will bring together photographers and audiences from around the world through exhibitions, talks, portfolio reviews, workshops, and photowalks, transforming Athens into a vibrant hub of visual storytelling.
A highlight of the inaugural edition is the participation of leading figures in international street photography, including Nikos Economopoulos, who will serve as the final juror for the festival’s photography competition.
The official opening of ASPF will take place on Thursday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m., with the launch of the international exhibition featuring works by the 63 finalists selected by the competition’s international jury.
The festival seeks to fill a notable gap in Greece’s cultural landscape by creating a new meeting point for professional and amateur photographers, as well as for audiences interested in contemporary visual narratives.
The program includes photowalks across Athenian neighborhoods, portfolio reviews, and talks by Greek and international photographers such as Agnes Burger, Jens Krauer, Francesca Chiacchio, Perry Hall, Forrest Walker, Harry Nakos, and Margarita Mavromichalis, among others.
Organizers describe ASPF as “a festival by street photographers for street photographers,” designed to celebrate the immediacy of the image and the authenticity of everyday urban life. With free admission and events running throughout the day, the festival hopes to foster a new creative community around street photography, bringing together different generations and perspectives on the urban experience.
The festival will conclude on Sunday, May 17, with the announcement of the competition winners and a closing party at the T.A.F. bar.
