With the festivities of Orthodox Easter now behind us, we are back to our regularly scheduled programming. The streets are lively, the people refreshed (and probably still full of lamb and kokoretsi), so let’s see what fun awaits the end of this week!
Something to see: Athens Digital Arts Festival At Plateia Dexamenis
Digital art meets the reimagining of water currents in the “Neon Water” exhibit created in collaboration with national water provider EYDAP. Housed in the old Hadrian’s Aqueduct under Dexamenis Square, the exhibition brings the space back to life in a modern digital-age twist.
Entrance is free and the exhibition will be taking place until the end of this month.

“Weak Signals” Exhibition At Acropolis
Continuing on the tech theme, “Weak Signals” is a multimedia representation of human connection in the digital age. The works span from hybrid bodies, avatars, synthetic landscapes, artificial forms, to constructions resembling mechanisms or staged environments.
Images are produced, circulated, and analyzed through technological infrastructures and algorithmic frameworks. The exhibition explores the image beyond its primary function, but as a cog in a bigger communication effort.

Something to do: “The Lost Library” At Mastermind Monastiraki
Escape rooms have been on my things to do for over a year, it’s about time I actually tried one. Something about Mastermind’s “Lost Library” outdoor escape game really called to me. The 2+ hour treasure hunt is a chase through the city with a map, escape room puzzles and hidden trinkets. The goal? Discovering the lost library of Aristotle!
“The Lost Library” is for over two players, you can book your session here.

Climate Picnic At Metropolitan Park Antonis Tritsis
Sustainability efforts don’t get enough credit—for both their educational and creative attributes. The four-hour event organized by the European Union centers around the picnic, and will be framed by “experiential and educational games, as well as climate walks for both adults and children”.
A leisurely activity for this week’s slow Sunday morning. Bring your food, your good mood and personally, I would bring pen and paper. Not so much to take notes (though you absolutely could), more so to sketch and enjoy a little off-screen fun.

Something to eat: Baba Ghanoush At Varnava Square
Arguably one of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Athens. Falafel wraps in all sorts of combinations dominate the menu, and for good reason. Even if that’s not your speed, the menu options span to all sorts of dishes including vegan burgers and many salad options.
If you enjoy a large salad as a main dish, my personal recommendation would be the Cous Cous. If salads are strictly a side-dish in your life, maybe a pita wrap with falafel and baba ghanoush would be preferable. Enjoy it all with some hot mint tea (trust me on this one, it’s a divine combination).

Kappari At Petralona
The neighborhood atmosphere coupled with delicious Greek dishes is unbeatable. Mediterranean cuisine in its most homely form, with the customer service to boot! I’ve had the pleasure of dining there multiple times with family, and Kappari has been our mezedopoleio of choice for years.
The haloumi salad is divine as a starter coupled with the kolokithokeftedes (vegetarian zucchini bites with spices and cheese, similar to meatballs in shape/look). My main dish of choice is the veal steak with fries.
Something extra: Coffee Shop Day Rave At Lazy Duck
This unique event taking place at the Lazy Duck cocktail bar/café organized with At Monique’s Place is sure to spice up your weekend plans. Energetic music, a lot of caffeine and “an experience you’ll feel long after it’s done”.
Even though I tend to spend Sunday morning asleep, my curiosity on this might actually make me wake up early enough to attend.
