A major emergency operation was launched early in the morning at the port of Piraeus, Greece’s busiest passenger and cargo hub, after a vehicle fell into the sea in the area of Gate E4.

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, a search-and-rescue operation is currently underway involving a Coast Guard vessel and personnel stationed at the port authority. At the same time, a team from the Underwater Missions Unit (known in Greece as the MUA, a specialized dive rescue unit of the Coast Guard) and a crane truck are being dispatched to assist in the search and in the recovery of the vehicle from the seabed.

So far, it has not been clarified whether any person was inside the vehicle at the time it went into the water. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the operation remains ongoing as emergency teams work to establish the circumstances of the incident and recover the submerged car.
