Consumer activity is reaching its peak across Greece as shoppers rush to complete their Easter purchases, giving a strong boost to the retail sector. On Holy Thursday, April 9, part of the Orthodox Easter period, stores are operating under extended festive hours, remaining open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

According to an announcement by the Athens Commercial Association, the holiday schedule for shops in the capital is as follows:

• Holy Thursday (April 9, 2026): 9:00 am– 9:00 pm
• Good Friday (April 10, 2026): 1:00 pm– 7:00 pm
• Holy Saturday (April 11, 2026): 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
• Easter Sunday (April 12, 2026) & Easter Monday (April 13, 2026): Closed

Meanwhile, the Thessaloniki Commercial Association has outlined a slightly different schedule for northern Greece. From Holy Monday (April 6) through Holy Thursday (April 9), shops will operate continuously from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

On Good Friday (April 10), stores will open from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, while on Holy Saturday (April 11), they will operate from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. As in Athens, all retail activity will pause on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, with shops remaining closed in observance of the holiday.

As the festive weekend approaches, retailers are anticipating a final surge in foot traffic, with consumers making last-minute purchases for one of the most significant celebrations in the Greek calendar.
