Google announced it would be carrying out three-dimensional mapping in several regions of Greece between February 4 and October 30, 2025, to incorporate into its Google Map application.
During this period, do not be surprised if you cross paths with Google Street View vehicles conducting the 3D mapping in Attica, Crete, Epirus, Western Macedonia, Macedonia and Thrace, the Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian Islands, the Aegean, Thessaly, and Central Greece.
As Google notes, Street View stitches together billions of panoramic images to provide a virtual representation of surroundings on Google Maps. Street View’s content comes from two sources – Google and contributors. Through our collective efforts, we enable people everywhere to explore the world virtually.
In its statement, Google clarified that the faces of individuals and license plate numbers of vehicles captured on camera will be blurred out.
Anyone objecting to showing their face, residence, or vehicle license plates can request they be blurred out. As per the company, Google Street View aids Google Maps users in navigation and directions through visual representations of the surrounding environments.
It also helps users virtually explore different locations around the world, including landmarks, neighborhoods, and natural wonders, enhancing travel planning and tourism.
Researchers and city planners can use the data for studies related to urban development, traffic patterns, and environmental changes.
