Μake us preferred on Google The Hellenic Bank Association has announced financial support for the families of two Greek Air Force pilots who were killed during a service flight near Tanagra on September 5.
The association said its member banks will provide a one-time payment of €50,000 to each family and write off certain individual debt obligations held by the pilots’ parents, dependents and spouses.
The decision was announced as a gesture of honor for the two pilots, 40 year old Wing Commander Ioannis Blesias and 37 year old Squadron Leader Dimitrios Petros, who died when their F-4 Phantom fighter aircraft crashed in the Tanagra area during the afternoon of Sept. 5, 2026.
€50,000 payment to each family
The four banks that are members of the Hellenic Bank Association — Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece and Piraeus Bank — said they would make the payments in equal shares and without delay.
The measure comes in addition to government support measures that have already been announced for the families.
The banks will also write off individual loan obligations owed to the four banks by the pilots’ parents, dependents and spouses.
The debt relief covers obligations from mortgages, consumer loans and credit cards.
The Hellenic Bank Association said the initiative follows similar measures taken after comparable losses in the recent past.
The association’s president and board members expressed their “sincere and deepest condolences” to the families and relatives of the two pilots.

The beneficiaries have been asked to contact the Hellenic Bank Association to arrange implementation of the initiative.
