Μake us preferred on Google A football practice session in Kypseli, Athens, led to the discovery of human remains after a ball was kicked into an abandoned area near the neighborhood of Alepotrypa on Tuesday, September 8.
The team’s coach left the field to retrieve the ball and found a blue plastic bag in the abandoned space. Human bones and a skull were protruding from the bag.
The coach immediately moved the children away from the area and alerted police. Officers cordoned off the site and collected the remains, which were transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for further examination.

Remains may have been there for years
The bones are expected to be examined by a specialist anthropologist to determine who they belonged to.
According to information reported by Greek broadcaster ANT1, the remains may have been at the site for more than two years. The same reports said that initial findings did not point to a criminal act, as no cut or incision was found on the skull that was recovered.
The area remains cordoned off as investigators search for any additional evidence that could help clarify how the remains came to be there.

Missing-person cases to be reviewed
Police are also expected to examine files involving missing people in an effort to identify the remains.
Konstantia Dimoglidou, a spokesperson for the Hellenic Police, said files concerning missing persons will be reviewed as authorities seek to establish the identity of the deceased.
Further forensic examination will be required before authorities can determine who the remains belong to and establish the circumstances surrounding their presence at the site.
