A 65-year-old Italian man accused of a double murder in the Aigio area of western Greece has been remanded in custody following his statement to an investigating magistrate.

The man, who is accused of the deaths of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son, appeared before judicial authorities and was ordered to remain detained pending further developments in the case.

During his statement, the 65-year-old strongly denied any involvement in the killings, insisting that he had no connection to the two deaths. He reportedly said he was willing to fully cooperate with authorities and provide any information requested as part of the investigation.

The case has caused widespread shock in the local community, with residents mourning the victims, Maria, 54, and her son Olympios, 26, who were killed inside their home in Longos, near Aigio.

Community mourns mother and son

The funeral of the two victims was held at the Church of Saint Demetrios in Longos, where relatives and friends gathered to say their final goodbye.

The funeral service began at 11:30 a.m., with the victims’ bodies inside the church. Family members expressed their disbelief over the tragedy, saying they were struggling to understand what had happened.

“I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it,” a relative of Maria said outside the church, adding that he believed the couple had been getting along well.

When asked what could have led to the tragedy, he replied: “Those secrets went with them. It is a tragedy.”
