The documentary Pina (2011), directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Wim Wenders, will screen at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall from November 6-8, 2026, offering audiences an opportunity to explore the groundbreaking work of choreographer Pina Bausch. The film will be shown with English subtitles.
The screenings coincide with performances of Vollmond by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, the renowned dance theater company associated with the choreographer. The Athens concert hall is presenting the film as part of its introductory program accompanying major cultural events.
Filmed with the ensemble of Tanztheater Wuppertal, Pina captures the distinctive artistic vision and compelling stage work of Bausch, who died in the summer of 2009. Rather than following a conventional documentary format, Wenders creates an immersive cinematic portrait that brings the choreographer’s work and artistic world to the screen.
The film takes viewers on a visual journey through performances both inside and outside the theater, as well as scenes filmed in the streets and industrial surroundings of Wuppertal, the German city that served as Bausch’s home and creative center for more than 35 years.
Through these settings and the dancers’ performances, Wenders explores Bausch’s artistic legacy and the expressive power of her choreography.
Pina received the 2011 European Film Award for Best Documentary and earned a nomination for Best Documentary Feature at the 84th Academy Awards in 2012.
