The 43-year-old man and his 38-year-old partner, who are accused of intentionally killing the infant, requested and received additional time to prepare their defense. Both deny the charges of intentional homicide brought against them.
According to reports, the couple is expected to directly challenge the findings of the forensic examination, which concluded that the infant’s death resulted from a criminal act.
Defendants expected to challenge forensic findings
As part of their defense strategy, the two defendants are expected to appoint their own technical adviser, as permitted by law, to examine the forensic findings.
The adviser is expected to assess the injuries identified on the infant and, if possible, challenge the forensic examiner’s conclusions regarding injuries the baby is believed to have sustained before death.
According to information cited in the report, the defendants maintain that the baby died from pathological causes and that no criminal act took place.
Their testimony before the investigating magistrate is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Third defendant also to testify
The third defendant, a 26-year-old man from Afghanistan, will also appear before the investigating magistrate.
He is accused of the felony of sexual acts with the couple’s minor daughter.
All three defendants are expected to testify as the judicial investigation into the case continues.
